Abigail Greydanus is one of the hottest up and coming clothing designers out there.  She has worked with Katy Perry on several of her most sensational latex outfits including the American / British flag dress, the catsuit for her fragrance ad Purr, Katy’s yellow and flower applique latex dress that she wore for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and many of her latex stage dresses.

Other celebrities and notable figures that she has worked with are Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, Kelis, and Rihanna.  Greydanus moved to L.A. to attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM).  After graduation she worked for Forever 21 and subsequently worked for the latex clothing company Syren.

Her focus at Syren was creating custom designs and she honed both her skills and personal style in her two years there.  Her style has been described as having the following elements: Art Deco, vintage styling, fun cut outs, and unique color combinations.

We are huge fans of her work and recommend that you take a look at her amazing work at her website or her blog.

What stood out to me was how many major names she’s dressed beyond Katy Perry, like Rihanna and Kelis. That mix of vintage styling with bold latex choices feels pretty distinctive in a crowded designer space.

Her path from FIDM to Forever 21 and then Syren is interesting, especially how those custom projects at Syren shaped her signature cutouts and color combos. It explains why her pieces feel both polished and playful.

I didn’t realize she had such a strong hand in Katy Perry’s latex looks, especially the American/British flag dress and that Purr catsuit. You can really see the Art Deco influence once you know what to look for.

The mention of the yellow floral applique dress for the Kids’ Choice Awards brought back memories, I remember how striking that piece was. It makes sense now knowing her focus on unique color combinations and detailing.
