Met Gala Latex

London-based latex extraordinaire, Atsuko Kudo, worked with Riccardo Tisci from Givenchy to create the flesh colored gown for Beyonce.

Queen Bey looked breathtaking in the peach hued number, complete with puffed sleeves and subtle pearl embellishments. “You’d think latex is easy to fit, but it’s difficult because everyone is a different height and shape and we make it to precisely fit the shape,” the Japanese designer explained to the Telegraph. “If we get the measurements right, latex will make you look amazing and works like shapewear.

I don’t want people to think latex is not flattering – it just has to be the correct size, because some people just go to any shop and try on and it’s not the correct size so you don’t get the right result. A good fit of latex can empower women.” Beyonce loves wearing Givenchy creations for the annual ball, having exclusively worn gowns from the fashion house for the last five years.

“Beyoncé’s dress for the Met Ball was another significant step forward for latex as a fashion fabric,” said Kudo to the Telegraph. “When a couture brand like Givenchy chooses latex to create a main garment for an important client who happens to be a super-star like Beyoncé then it’s a big change. My mission is to empower women through latex, and make the world a shinier place.”

It certainly looks like Kudo is well on her way, especially with other celebs like Solange Knowles and Bella Hadid also wearing irresistible latex outfits. Solange looked sunny in an all yellow abstract design with rows of pleats and a three dimensional shape. Beneath it all, she sported a pair of matching latex thigh highs. Meanwhile, Bella Hadid smoldered with an Atsuko Kudo pencil dress, featuring a demi-boosted bodice and matching pumps. She let her hair loose in a carefree nineties-inspired style and looked ready to party.
