Balloon made of latex sheets?

I know this website deals largely with making clothing and perhaps accessories, but could the materials sold here be used to also make a giant balloon?

I'm pretty new to this idea of crafting stuff, as I don't have much experience, so I'm looking for any advice or tips on how I might be able to create this balloon (if it's even possible?) from people who may have some experience... 

My idea is to purchase 20 yards of latex (39" wide, .30 mm thick, I dunno what color or transparency would be best), which I can then cut into 6 "sliver" shapes and connect them together in a beachball-like pattern.  The sphere, if I give myself a ~1 inch overlap of latex on all edges, would be close to 6 feet wide unstretched! (I don't know how I'll do the nozzle yet though)        

If you think this strategy might work, or might not work, or if you have any other suggestions or general thoughts, please let me know!  I also don't know what would be the best way to actually go about and sealing the edges, nor what adhesive to use, or pretty much anything of the sort.  I'm also a college student who may be spending more money than I should, so if yall know of any potential sales/discounts/codes, please let me know :P the latex alone would cost well over $200...

You can create a balloon from latex sheeting.  If you've never worked with latex before I'd recommend taking a look at some of the tutorials on mjtrends to understand how to glue latex seams:

You'll want to get a rotary cutter and rotary cutting matt for cutting the latex (do not use scissors):

You can adhere a rubber valve to allow for inflation - latex will adhere to anything rubber with the latex adhesive.
